Church Carpet Cleaning in Calgary SE: Removing Dirt, Coffee Stains, and High-Traffic Area Buildup

Project Background: From the Initial Phone Call to an On-Site Assessment

We recently completed a commercial carpet cleaning project at a church in southeast Calgary.

The project began when a church staff member contacted us to arrange professional carpet cleaning.

Because the church had a relatively large carpeted area, with different sections experiencing different levels of foot traffic, we first scheduled an on-site visit to measure the cleaning area and assess the carpet’s condition.

During our visit, a staff member walked us through the areas that needed cleaning and pointed out several high-traffic areas, along with a few noticeable coffee stains.

These were the areas that would require extra attention during the cleaning process.

The on-site assessment gave us a better understanding of the carpet’s overall condition, the main types of soiling, and the scope of the project. It also helped us develop an appropriate cleaning plan.

After discussing the schedule with the church staff, we agreed to carry out the cleaning on a Wednesday.

Understanding the Carpet’s Condition: What Types of Soil Were We Dealing With?

Different commercial environments tend to have different types of carpet soiling.

For example, restaurant carpets often accumulate food grease and other oily residues. At this church, however, the primary concerns were tracked-in dirt, dust, and a few beverage stains.

During our inspection, we noticed a considerable amount of dirt and small stones on the carpet’s surface.

These particles are often brought indoors through regular foot traffic and gradually accumulate on the carpet and between its fibres.

Some of the frequently used walkways also showed more noticeable soil buildup.

For this type of commercial carpet, we believe the priority is not simply to remove visible stains. It is equally important to follow the proper cleaning sequence and remove as much accumulated dry soil as possible.

With that in mind, we planned a thorough, step-by-step cleaning process.

Step 1: Thorough Pre-Vacuuming

On the scheduled cleaning day, we arrived at the church with two professional truck-mounted carpet cleaning systems.

Before beginning the hot water extraction process, our first priority was thorough vacuuming.

This was one of the most important steps in the entire project.

Because the carpet contained a significant amount of dirt, dust, and small stones, we wanted to remove as much loose, dry soil as possible before introducing moisture.

If this step is skipped and wet cleaning begins immediately, some of the dry soil can mix with water and turn into mud, making the remaining cleaning process more difficult.

Rather than rushing to start our truck-mounted equipment, we took the time to complete a thorough pre-vacuuming process.

This helped prepare the carpet for the next stages of cleaning.

We have always believed that professional carpet cleaning involves much more than simply operating a powerful machine. Every step serves a purpose, and the order in which those steps are performed matters.

Step 2: Coffee Stain Pre-Treatment

Once vacuuming was complete, we turned our attention to the coffee stains identified during the initial inspection.

Coffee stains require a different approach from ordinary dirt and dust.

Depending on the condition of each stain, an appropriate treatment method needs to be selected.

We began by applying a targeted stain treatment to the affected areas, allowing sufficient dwell time for the cleaning solution to work on the removable components of the stains.

This preparation helps improve the conditions for the subsequent hot water extraction process.

When dealing with localized stains like these, we prefer to treat them separately rather than relying on the same cleaning solution and method for every type of soil.

Of course, the final result of coffee stain removal can depend on several factors, including how long the stain has been present, the type of carpet fibre, and whether other cleaning products have previously been applied.

Step 3: Pre-Spray Treatment for Dirt and Dust

After treating the coffee stains, we moved on to the overall carpet pre-spray.

Based on our earlier assessment, the main sources of soiling in this church were dirt and dust, with no significant buildup of oily residues.

For that reason, we selected a cleaning solution better suited to this type of soil rather than using a treatment designed primarily for heavy grease.

We applied the pre-spray evenly across the carpet and allowed appropriate dwell time.

This helps loosen soil attached to the carpet fibres, preparing it for removal during hot water extraction.

We believe that choosing the right cleaning solution involves more than simply looking for the strongest cleaning product.

The carpet’s material, condition, and type of soiling should all be considered when selecting the appropriate product and cleaning method.

Step 4: Extra Agitation for High-Traffic Areas

We paid particular attention to the high-traffic areas that the church staff had identified during our initial visit.

These sections received additional agitation to help loosen accumulated dirt and soil.

Over time, repeated foot traffic can cause soil particles to become more firmly embedded between carpet fibres.

As a result, heavily used walkways often require more attention than areas with less frequent foot traffic.

Agitation helps loosen soil from the carpet fibres and allows the pre-spray solution to work more effectively.

During this process, we also considered the carpet’s construction and condition, adjusting the agitation method and intensity to avoid unnecessary fibre damage.

Even when the same carpet is installed throughout a building, we do not believe every section should automatically receive the same level of treatment.

High-traffic areas often need a more targeted cleaning approach.

Step 5: Truck-Mounted Hot Water Extraction

With all the preparation and pre-treatment completed, it was finally time to bring in our professional truck-mounted hot water extraction equipment.

Honestly, this is one of our favourite parts of the job!

There is something incredibly satisfying about watching the cleaning wand move across the carpet while the dirty water is extracted. We never really get tired of seeing it!

During hot water extraction, a combination of hot water, appropriate cleaning action, and powerful vacuum recovery helps remove loosened soil and cleaning solution from the carpet.

For this church carpet cleaning project, our main goals were to remove accumulated dirt and dust, extract the pre-treated stains, and improve the overall appearance of the high-traffic areas.

Having two truck-mounted systems available allowed us to organize the work efficiently according to the size and layout of the property and complete the project without unnecessary delays.

In our experience, equipment performance, cleaning solution selection, proper pre-treatment, and a well-planned cleaning process all need to work together to achieve good results.
